Leadership
Implementing and supporting local Project LAUNCH services requires state, tribal, local coordinators and council members to have advanced leadership skills.
Leadership in Project LAUNCH
While each Project LAUNCH leader brings his or her own distinct leadership style, successful Project LAUNCH coordinators and council members demonstrate their leadership in a number of essential ways. For example, they:
- Build a shared vision with their councils, staff, and partners that documents the current reality and sets a course for the future. The Project LAUNCH guidance documents for Environmental Scanning and Strategic Planning provide many ideas for building a shared vision.
- Communicate the vision to a broad group of stakeholders. To meet the Project LAUNCH charge to create long-term changes in state and tribal systems, the Project LAUNCH leader builds coalitions of support by conveying the project’s mission and goals to tribal council members, state colleagues, legislators and other decision makers, families, and other community partners.
- Serve as a positive role model by recognizing their role as steward of Project LAUNCH vision and resources. Project LAUNCH leaders use their time and energy to promote the success of the initiative.
- Hire and empower staff with skills and values consistent with the project. In addition to providing staff with training and ongoing supervision, they share accountability for the success of the initiative.
