Getting Started Resources

The following documents are essential resources for new Project LAUNCH State Child Wellness Experts and Local Child Wellness Coordinators. Feel free to contact the Project LAUNCH TA team or your FPO for information about these and other resources, or visit the Resources section of the Project LAUNCH Web site.

  • Project LAUNCH Grantee Manual. (PDF, 473 KB) This five-section reference tool provides a Project LAUNCH overview; information on reporting requirements and other grantee responsibilities; an introduction to Project LAUNCH federal staff and their roles; descriptions of the roles of the Project LAUNCH TA and Cross-site Evaluation teams; and guidance on selected grants management and budgetary issues. The document also includes a glossary, sample LAUNCH job descriptions, and a sample memorandum of understanding (MOU) that grantees can adapt for use with their partners.
  • Environmental Scanning and Strategic Planning Guidance (2010-2011). (PDF, 261 KB) This reference tool guides Project LAUNCH grantees through the development of the environmental scan and strategic plan that are required in the first eight months of operation. In addition to explaining the purpose of this planning process and outlining expectations for the required documents, the Guidance also includes templates for completing both the scan and the plan.
  • Project LAUNCH Overview: A PowerPoint Presentation. (PPT, 634 KB) Designed for use in orienting community partners, Young Child Wellness Councils and other stakeholders, this Powerpoint presentation summarizes LAUNCH’s goals, objectives, theoretical underpinnings, and activities in a succinct and audience-friendly manner.
  • Newly Revised Project LAUNCH Briefing Sheet. (PDF, 221 KB) Project staff can use this professionally designed one-page project description as a handout at stakeholder meetings. Grantees can request a limited number of printed copies from the Project LAUNCH TA Team.
  • Project LAUNCH Press Release Template. (Word, 29 KB) New grantees can modify this generic template to create a press release to share the good news of their award within their community.
  • New Launch Coordinator Orientation Checklist. (PDF, 101 KB) This short tool includes a list of: 1) people you need to know, 2) documents that you should gather, and 3) resources that you can access.
  • Characteristics of State/Local Project LAUNCH Leaders. (PDF, 92 KB) This hiring tool was designed by the TA team to supplement the Young Child Wellness Coordinator job description contained in the Grantee Manual. Although the tool is not part of SAMHSA regulations or policy, grantees that have used it report that it has helped to inform their hiring decisions and/or staff development plans for their new leaders.
  • Project LAUNCH 2010 Orientation Webinar Schedule. (PDF, 34 KB) The Project LAUNCH team at SAMHSA, the Project LAUNCH Cross-Site Evaluation team, and the Technical Assistance Team have put together these orientation Webinars in order to help orient new grantees to Project LAUNCH.
