Project Summary : Bakersfield will work with the needs of students in the two largest non-unified school districts serving the Kern High School District (KHSD) with 29,333 students, and the Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) with 28,999 students. The goals for the Initiative are to create a safe school environment conducive to learning, to reduce the incidence to truancy, violence and alcohol, tobacco and drug use, to reduce the risk and delay onset of mental health problems and increase access to mental health services, to have children psychologically , socially and physically ready to learn; to promote the social, psychological, and academic success of all students; to create school wide policies that support safe school practices across grade levels, schools and districts and to create a model program that is replicable in other communities.
