Tips for Educators and Parents in Dealing with Gulf Oil Spill
Children and youth may react to the recent oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in a number of ways. In response, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has created Tips for Talking to Children & Youth About the Oil Spill Disaster - A Guide for Parents and Educators, and Tips for Talking to Children & Youth About the Oil Spill Disaster - Interventions at Home for Preschoolers to Adolescents. The guides provide tips for parents and educators for talking with preschoolers, elementary age children, and adolescents about the spill, as well as suggested interventions if a child or adolescent is showing signs of stress due to losses or change from the oil spill.
